Bernice Chambers Bailey, daughter of the late Willie and Blanche Chambers was born on June 6, 1939 in Appomattox County, VA. Bernice departed this life on Monday, February 25, 2019 at her home. She was educated in the Appomattox Pubic School System.
She was united in holy matrimony to Johnny J. Bailey, who preceded her in death, and to this union six children were born.
At an early age Bernice accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church and remained faithful to her church and the Lord while serving as the Financial Secretary for many years until her health began to decline.
She leaves to cherish her memories three daughters; Luvenia Wright (Ollie), Alberta, VA; Phyliss Bailey (Calvin), Appomattox, VA, and Lisa Eggleston (Carl) of Pamplin, VA; three sons; John Bailey (Elder Pearl) Lynchburg, VA, Charles Bailey (Annie) Appomattox, VA and Andrew Kent Bailey, Appomattox, VA; two brothers; Saint Joseph Chambers (Appomattox) VA and Abraham Chambers; six sister-in-laws, Odell Chambers, Jenny Bell Chambers, Josephine Johnson, Mary Goldman, Anna David, Mary Bailey and Cindy Chambers; three brother-in-laws; Edward Bailey, Thomas David and Eddie Johnson; 11 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
Psalm 55:6 -- And I said, Oh that I had wings like a dove! For then would I fly away, and be at rest.
Viewing will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2019, 11 a.m. until 6 p.m. at the Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Monday, March 4, 2019, 1 p.m. at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church, Pamplin, VA with viewing also one hour prior to service.
