Maggie was the third of six daughters born to the late Louis and Ester Ferguson on March 21, 1941. At an early age, Maggie accepted Christ and became a member of the Springfield Baptist Church in Appomattox County. Later as an adult, she joined the Mt. Airy Baptist Church in Appomattox County. She served on the Pastor’s Aid and Bylaws committees and remained a faithful member until her health started to decline. Maggie cherished The Lord’s Prayer (Matthew 6:9-13) and when her grandchildren were young, she taught each of them her favorite song, ‘This Little Light of Mine.’

Maggie attended Carver-Price High School in Appomattox County. In 1983, she was awarded an Associate in Applied Science Degree in Accounting from Central Virginia Community College in Lynchburg, VA. Maggie furthered her education by attending and graduating from Lynchburg College where she earned a Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Accounting in 1986.

As a teenager, Maggie made the decision to move her family to the city of New York where she was employed by Con Edison for over ten years. After sixteen years of city living, Maggie and her family returned home to Appomattox, VA where she resided for the rest of her life. Upon her return, Maggie was employed by Babcock & Wilcox for over 19 years.

Maggie was smart and snazzy. She enjoyed playing chess, working word puzzles, shopping, baking, watching sports, and collecting fine china. Maggie was a loving mother and adored her grandchildren and great-grandsons to no end. Her loving memories will be cherished by her daughter, Felicia ‘Lisa’ Franklin (Lawrence) of Appomattox, VA, five grandchildren, Charisse ‘Nic’ Vaughan (Dwight) of Appomattox, VA, Dionne Mitchell (Marc) of Aldie, VA, Tevin Franklin (Cynthia) of Lynchburg, VA, Brian Thurman of Washington, DC, and Tameika Thurman of Richmond, VA, two great-grandsons, Savion Vaughan and Bryson Mitchell; three sisters, Henrietta Preston (James) of Hyattsville, MD, Clara McIvor of Brookneal, VA, and Joyce Ferguson of Appomattox, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
