Clyde Ferguson Obituary

Clyde Douglas Ferguson was born January 5, 1938 in Pamplin Virginia to the late Jean Elizabeth Ferguson.

In June 1956 Clyde, affectionately known as “Buck,” graduated from Robert Russel Moton High School in Farmville Virginia. He immediately moved to Fort Jackson, South Carolina and proudly joined the US Army.

In January 1957 Buck married his first wife Catherine R. Wheeler and began raising a family. Together they raised 4 daughters and 1 son while traveling across the US, Europe, and Germany.

During his military career Buck found a passion for weapons infantry and mine warfare. This passion led him to the classroom as a weapons instructor. He received numerous medals and awards including the National Defense Service Medal, Expert Weapons Medal, 2 Bronze Star Medal, Combat Infantry Badge, Air Medal, and a Purple Heart Medal

After 17 years of defending his country and being wounded during combat in the Vietnam War; Sargent First Class Clyde D Ferguson received an honorable discharge on August 28, 1973.

Buck returned to Pamplin and soon relocated to New Port News Virginia where he obtained his HVAC certification and later married his second wife Brenda Williams. This union blessed Buck with a son and many happy memories he held near and dear to his heart. He attended the Gethsemane Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Dr. Dwight Riddick. Buck lived a long, exciting and active life filled with the military, family, friends, and fishing for 81 years.  After living with cancer for 26 years Buck left this life on September 15, 2019 surrounded by family.
