David Hancock Obituary

David Hancock, 58 of Appomattox, Virginia, entered his eternal rest on Saturday, October 8, 2022 at the family home.

David was born on March 23, 1964 in Lynchburg, Virginia to the late William and Thelma Hancock. He was educated in the Appomattox County School system. David was baptized and joined Promise Land Baptist Church, Appomattox, Virginia at a very early age. He was a faithful choir member.

Affectionately known as “Dave” by his family and many friends, he was a real estate appraiser by trade, a tremendous gardener, an aspiring actor whose portrayal of the Lion in the “Wizard of Oz” was a roaring success. David loved all God’s creatures, big and small, feathery or slimy. He hatched birds, chickens, snakes, turtles, fish, and was in total love with Bella (his princess dog).

With his larger-than-life persona and crazy humor, David will not be forgotten. He was quite the teller of tales whose elaborate stories can never be forgotten, ask anyone here. They can tell you at least one. David always told you the truth or how he felt about something or someone (only talked about folks on occasion) even if it wasn’t what you wanted to hear. He was generous to a fault (ask Marcus and Kendall), a pussy cat at heart, and yet he sugar-coated absolutely nothing. He was a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma. David took fashion advice from no one. He was LL Bean inspired, wrapped in comfort. He was a model of strong will and sheer determination until the end of his journey here on earth.

David will be greatly missed.

David was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents.

He leaves to cherish his memory, brothers, Michael Hancock of Lynchburg, and Todd Hancock (Erin) of Woodbridge, Virginia; two nephews: Marcus and Kendall Hancock; a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, and besties Troy Mearkle, Jim Tracey, and Randy and Penny Lewis.

Lovingly Submitted by the Family
