Charles Edward Snead Leftwich entered eternal rest on January 16th 2023. You would often find him telling someone about Jesus and how they should live here on earth. He knew the Lord and made it his mission to tell others about the goodness of the Lord.
Deacon Leftwich was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Dametria Rae Washington and a daughter, Cheryl M. Perkins.
Deacon Leftwich was the son of the late Mary E. Leftwich Hawkes and step-father, the late Marrel E. Hawkes. Deacon Leftwich attended school in Lynchburg and also served in the United States Army. He later moved to Brooklyn, NY where he met and married Ruth Rivers and from that union one son was born.
He later moved his family to Gladstone, VA where his aspiration was to drive a big truck. Deacon Leftwich later obtained this goal and went on to drive 18 wheelers for Jamerson Brothers in Appomattox and Harris Trucking out of Lynchburg, VA and drove over the roads for over 44 years.
Deacon Leftwich became a member of St. Joy Baptist Church where he served on various committees until his passing. These committees include, chairman of the deacon board.
Deacon Leftwich was also a part of various organizations including, the Boy Scouts, Masonry, Lining Bar Gang, Neighborhood Watch, Deacon Conference, past Commander of Post 134 through the American Legion, president of the Missionary Circle, NAACP member, Free Will Sunday School Union, Holy Week Alliance, and various other endeavors.
He leaves to cherish his memory a devoted and loving wife of 52 years, Ruth Rivers Leftwich, one son, Charles Dexter Leftwich (Renee); four daughters from a previous marriage, Cheryl M. Perkins (who preceded him in death), Barbara Washington (James), Wanda Glenn (James), and Trina Richardson (James); 17 Grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends.
A funeral service for Deacon Leftwich will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2023, 12 noon at St. Joy Baptist Church, Buckingham, VA. He will lie in repose one hour prior to the service.
Viewing will be held on Friday, January 20, 2023, 12 noon until 5 p.m. at the Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home.
