Earl D. Baker was born on February 5, 1936 in Philadelphia, PA. He was the son of the late Aloysius P. and Mabel D. Baker. He graduated from the Bordentown Manual Training School in Bordentown, NJ where he met the love of his life, Gloria C. Cason. He joined the United States Army in 1955 and shortly thereafter he married Gloria on October 12, 1958. Into this union four children were born.
Earl Baker was employed at McGuire Air Force Base in Fort Dix, NJ. He was the Foreman there for 35 years. He then moved to Pamplin, VA where he became a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church in 1994. He served as Chairman of the Trustee Board for over 20 years and always worked hard in keeping the church afloat. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge for almost 50 years. Mr. Baker enjoyed exercise, gardening and going to church.
He leaves to cherish his memories his children, Darlene Gabele of Virginia Beach, VA, Darren Baker of Lakeland, FL, Dwayne Baker (Toni) of Mount Holly, NC, and Debrina Jackson (Rodger) of Chesapeake, VA. He also leaves behind seven grandchildren, Jay, Joy, Jules, Mark (Regina), Nicholas, Quinton, and Ciera; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and many friends including his lifelong friend Reuben West.
A funeral service for Mr. Earl Baker will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2024, at 2 p.m. at the New Jerusalem Baptist Church, 14287 Richmond Highway, Appomattox, VA, 24522.
Public viewing will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2024, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home.
