Helen Ruth Trent

On Thursday, June 15, 2023, God looked down in his beautiful garden and called Helen to come home.

Helen Ruth Trent was born on July 16, 1935 in Appomattox County Virginia to Isaac and Otelia Trent.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Isaac and Otelia; grandson, Nafis Armstead; siblings, Catherine, Isaac, Floyd, Ruby, Mary, Verna, David, and Delia.

She was employed by Snyder Drug Store and Feldman’s Hardware Store.  Helen’s gifts and love for cooking was shared with everyone. Her home was always open to the neighborhood.  Helen would prepare special meals twice a year for the Fire Department.  After being encouraged by her church, Deliverance Evangelistic Church, Helen opened a restaurant and was fully supported by the church and community.

Her greatest job was when she started working on the prayer line for the 700 Club.  Being filled with the Holy Spirit, Helen quickly became a supervisor.  Through her outpouring of love she helped the prayer line co-workers minister in the power of prayer and she stayed with the 700 Club until they closed the Philadelphia Chapter.

The next chapter in her life was becoming a foster parent, fostering up to 13 children at one time.  Her main focus was to keep the children until they could be reunited back with their family.  Helen believed in keeping families together.  She finally adopted 3 of those foster angels and moved back to Virginia in 2003 to be with her family.

Helen’s passing leaves a void in our hearts of all who knew her.  She leaves behind in God’s loving care, six children; Jacqueline, Samuel, Jr., Stanley, Gary, Jo’el and Jarod; one daughter-in-law, Susan; twelve grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one brother, Clyde; two sisters; Irene and Nancy; two sisters-in-law, Annie and Sheila, two brothers-in-law, Richard F. and Remus, and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

Helen loved God.  She was a humble and faithful servant all her life.  Helen’s journey in the ministry was to lead others to God.

A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, June 23, 2023, at 2 P.M. at Jordan Baptist Church Cemetery, 11882 Stonewall Rd., Appomattox, VA  24522.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at the Bruce & Stiff Funeral Home.
