Henry E. "Big Foot" Davis

On Wednesday, December 13, 2023, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ called home our beloved husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather Henry E. "Big Foot" Davis, 69 of Appomattox, VA.  He was born June 8, 1954, to Samuel C. Davis and Ada Baker Davis.  Henry was one of eleven children.  He was preceded in death by his brothers Samuel, Alexander, Leon, and Johnny.

Henry was a 1972 graduate of ACHS with his work history starting with Thomasville Furniture.  He then worked for over 30 years with Fred Jones Well Co.  Even after retirement, he continued to serve the community by helping those in need.  On rare occasions, he was off and when he was he enjoyed all sports, especially the Washington Red Skins.  Big Foot was a friend to all and was loved by everyone he had a love for family and cars.  He joined the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Red House, at an early age.

Henry is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Dorothy B. Davis; two daughters, Tonyia (Walter) Kelso and Stephanie Davis and a devoted friend Hillary Wade all of Appomattox; two grandsons, Rontae Brogdon (Ellen Schneider, friend) of Appomattox and Garry Brogdon (Monique Hanson, fiancé) of Red House; six great-grandchildren, Amani, Zavian, Marcus, Xnyla and Paisley whom affectingly referred to him as Big Poppy! Three brothers Robert of Halifax, Romantic, and Conway both of Appomattox; three sisters, Delma Hamlett of Lynchburg, Norma Hodge, and Ada Mae Coleman both of Appomattox; one uncle, William Baker (Annette) five sisters-in-law, four brother-in-laws, a host of nieces, nephews, and many other family and friends.

We thought of you today but that is nothing new. 

I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. 

I think of you in silence.  I often speak your name. 

All we have are memories and your picture in a frame. 

Your memory is a keepsake from which I’ll never part. 

God has you in his arms.

We have you in our hearts!

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Henry "Big Foot" Davis will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023, at noon at Hatcreek Baptist Church, 6442 Hat Creek Rd., Brookneal, VA.  He will lie in repose one hour before the service.

Public viewing will be held on Thursday, December 21, 2023, from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. at the Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home.
