Hilda Virginia Carter Jones departed this earth on Friday, April 10, 2026, at the age of 97.

“And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither shall there be any more pain.” – Rev. 21:4

Deaconess Hilda Jones was born on June 1st, 1928, to the late Mr. James Carter and Annie B. Isabell Carter.

Deaconess Hilda joined Jordan Baptist Church at an early age.  She was a devoted, dedicated, and faithful member of the church.  She serves as the Mother of the Church.  She taught Sunday school and was a member of the Senior Choir.  As one of the founding members of the Senior Choir, she faithfully participated for 72 years and also was a member of The Faithful Few Ladies Ministry from its beginning to 75 years of service.  Currently she was serving at the Missionary Treasurer and chair of the Food Committee.

Hilda’s favorite scripture was Psalm 23 and she was always ready to hear her brother-in-law Harry sing

“Every Day will be Like Sunday”; her love and faith in God carried her through many trails.  She will be greatly missed by many.

In addition to her parents, Hilda was preceded in death by her husband, Deacon Willie B. Jones, daughter Willie Eloise Jones; brothers, James Carter, William Carter, and Harry Carter; sister, Martha C. Watkins, son-in-law David Trent, granddaughter Cynthia Randolph and great-grandson Ricky McCray, Jr.

Deaconess Hilda is survived by her three children; daughter Annie Trent, sons John E. Jones and Nathaniel L. Jones; her Grandchildren; Staci (Walter), Meneca, Shannon, Jonathan, Jasmine; Adopted grandchildren, Delores and Angel.  Great-grandchildren, Derrick (devoted), Katearia, Amber, D’Shawn, Justin, Xavier, Ariana, Samara and Octacvius. Great great-grandchildren, Dezya, Tori, Layla, Scylar, Solomon and Wynter.  Devoted nieces, Lawane, Doris and Lisa J.  Nephews, Monte, Ricky (devoted) and Junie.  Adopted sons, Ed McKoy, Marco Turner, Johnny Lamberth, Waddell Jones, Stuart Jones, Eddie Pennix and Michael Pennix.  Brother-in-law, Harry Watkins.  Sister-in-law Phyllis Carter.  Fur baby, LA.  Phone buddy, Martha Pankey. Friend and sister in Christ, Veola Mosley.  Life-long friend, Mattie Turner. Devoted friends, Norma Fabian and Debra Jones.

With deep gratitude the family would like to recognize those who devoted their love, time, compassion, and care to our beloved Hilda C. Jones; Martha Pankey, Patricia Turner, Susan Culpepper, Ruby Lee Trent, Lucy Ferguson and Harry Watkins and the Jordan Adult Choir, her church children.  We would like to remember our heavenly angels who are no longer with us; Jean Mosley, Louise Carter, Mervis Turner and Elnora Franklin.  We give all appreciation to the Nurses and Doctors on the fourth floor, B wing, Centra Lynchburg General Hospital.

General Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026, followed by the Family Visitation Hour to meet and greet the public, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, April 14, 2026.  The funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, at the Jordan Baptist Church, 11882 Stonewall Rd, Appomattox, VA  24522.
