JEWEL PHILLIP SPINNER, 82, of Big Island VA was born on 2nd October 1939. He departed this life on the 18th of January 2022, passing from time into eternity forever to be with the Lord. He joined Sharon Baptist Church at an early age. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and gardening. He loved anything dealing with nature and was a self-proclaimed expert. He retired after 33 years with the National Park Service on the Blue Ridge Parkway. He was preceded in death and the last living son of his parents Gilbert, Sr and Adell Spinner, his brothers Russell, Gilbert Jr, Curl, Addie, and George Spinner, and one sister; Martha Johnson, and a stepdaughter Lori Hill. He leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife Carolyn H. Spinner of Lynchburg, VA, daughters Danielle (Ferron) Adkins of Chapel Hill, NC, Megan Moore of Charlotte, NC. One stepson Mark (Marcie)Hill of Glasgow, VA. Sisters; Ollie S. McDaniel of Lynchburg, VA, Carrie(Dempsey)Franklin of Monroe, VA, and Florence Younger of Big Island, VA. Five sisters-in-law: Gloria Spinner of Madison Heights, VA, Dorothea Spinner of Big Island, VA, Melanie (Kevin) Branch of Buena Vista, VA, Barbara (Jim) Harris of Lexington, VA, and Vonda Spinner of Big Island, VA. Two brothers-in-law, Charles “Ray” Staton of Glasgow, VA, Michael Parker of Fincastle, VA, and Linda Clark of Buena Vista, VA; Nine grandchildren, Dominique Rosa, Jasmine Bennett, Leila Hill Rosa, Andrew Rosa, Jada Rosa; all of Newport News, VA, Madison Hill of Glasgow, VA, Jordan & Mariah Moore of Charlotte, NC, and Nala Adkins of Chapel Hill, NC, and host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, and friends.
A funeral will be held on Friday, January 28, 2022, at 1 p.m. at Sharon Missionary Baptist Church, 16242 Big Island Highway, Big Island VA. A viewing will only be held for one hour at the church prior to the service.
