Lillie Adams Obituary

 

Lillie Mae Lewis Adams was the thirteenth child of the late Mace R. Lewis and Martha Jane Patterson Lewis. She was born Tuesday, March 19,1935 in Appomattox, Virginia. On Saturday, February 12, 2022 our dear Lillie departed this life and followed the light to join her Heavenly Father.

Lillie Mae was raised in a loving Christian home. She accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior and was baptized in Davis Creek. Lillie loved the Lord and remained a faithful member of Springfield Baptist Church. She enjoyed teaching Sunday School and Bible Study. She was an active member of her home church and severed on the Ladies Auxiliary.

Lillie acquired a great passion for science from living on her family farm, and participating in the school’s 4-H Club. After graduating from Carver-Price High School, with honors, Lillie earned a scholarship to attend Saint Paul’s College, a private, historically black college located in Lawrenceville, Va. During her sophomore year. Lillie became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree, in Home Economics, and graduated Cum Laude. After graduating from College, Lil became an active member of the NAACP and participated in the Civil Acts Movement and Marched on Washington, DC in 1963 for jobs and freedom.

While living in New York, Lil advanced her career and became the first African American female to gain employment as a Micro Biologist at Revlon, Inc.

On a boat ride, in New York, James E. Adams met the love of his life, Lillie Mae. The two were introduced by Lillie’s family and was married for 62 years. From that union, they were blessed with four daughters. As parents, they devoted a great deal of time with their family. They instilled the values of a love for the Lord, hard work, and education to be successful in life.

Lillie Mae lived a purpose-filled life. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, cooking and playing games. Her legacy will be remembered by her family and friends. Lillie Mae exemplified the Fruits of the Spirit: Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness, Gentleness, and Self Control.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings, husband and daughter: Danita. She leaves to cherish her precious memory to three loving daughters.

Brenda, Alisa, and Martina (Phillip I). She was loved and cherished by her grandchildren: Ashton, Ashale’, and Phillip II. Leaving behind sister-in laws: Bertha, Adrienne, Dedriea, and Yvonne. Along with a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
