Early Tuesday afternoon, September 26, 2023, with her family by her side, God came very gently and calmly and carried Mrs. Martha Ann McCoy Pankey to eternal rest. She was the loving wife of Mr. Raymond Pankey of Appomattox, VA.
Martha McCoy Pankey, 86, departed this life on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at Appomattox Health and Rehab. She was born on June 27, 1937, to the late Obadiah McCoy Sr. and the late Mattie R. Kidd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her stepfather, Percy Kidd, Sr.; siblings, Lorraine Kidd, Peggy Hannah, Phyllis Dunson, Lois McCoy Scruggs, Percy Kidd, Jr., Mattie Hamlett, and Merry Bassett.
She is survived by her loving husband of 64 years, Raymond E. Pankey, and 7 siblings; Marion Kelso, Obadiah McCoy Jr. (Lois), Mable Kidd (Richard), Doreatha Woolridge (Leroy, Sr.), Beverly Kidd Matthews, Lucille Ferguson (Eddie), Linda Johnson (Lawrence), sister-in-law Lonell Kidd; brothers-in-law Edwin Bassett and Richard Hamlett and a host of nieces and nephews.
Martha dedicated her life to Christ at an early age. She was a member of Springfield Baptist Church. Martha was a very beautiful person inside and out. She devoted her life to being a full-time caregiver, not just at work but to everyone she loved. For her enjoyment she loved crossword puzzles, spending time with her loved ones, and sewing. Martha’s genuine kindness touched the hearts of everyone around her. Her acts of compassion and thoughtfulness will leave a lasting impact on everyone fortunate enough to know her. It is her wish that she leaves an inheritance of love and compassion to her family and friends and that it be passed amongst the generations. Martha will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her
The funeral service for Mrs. Pankey will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, 12 noon, at Springfield Baptist Church, 6074 Watt Abbitt Church, Appomattox, VA. She will lie in repose one hour prior to the service start.
Public viewing will be held on Friday, October 6, 2023, from 12 noon until 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
The wearing of facial masks is required at the funeral.
