Mary Magdeline Gilbert Haskins was called to her Heavenly Home on Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Farmville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Farmville, VA. She was born on March 20, 1947 in Campbell County, Virginia. She was the daughter of the late Alex Andrew Gilbert and the late Martha Cheatham Gilbert. Mary, know to friends and family as Mag, was educated in the Campbell County Public School System.
She joined the Mount Zion Baptist Church at an early age, and later became a faithful member of the Pentecostal Holiness Church until her illness. Mary loved reading her bible and witnessing to family and friends. She also enjoyed sewing and was an excellent seamstress. She could be found many days sitting in front of her sewing machine sewing and repairing garments for family and friends. She had a loving, kind spirit and enjoyed helping others.
Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Alex and Martha Gilbert; one son, Anthony Haskins, Jr., five siblings; Maebell Price, Adelle Marshall, Nelson Gilbert, Alex Gilbert, and Robert Gilbert.
She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Jacqueline M. Haskins, two grandchildren; Dameitry Jaquan Haskins, Andre Trevon Haskins of Panplin, VA; one God Grandson, Raekwon Sreet of Farmville, VA; two great grandchildren, Cayden Josiah Haskins of Pamplin, VA and Honey Devina Claire Bradshaw of Lynchburg, VA; six sisters; Estelle Haskins (wife of the late Simon Haskins) of Pamplin, VA, Christine Marshall (Richard), Betty Venable (wife of the late Cornelius Venable) both of Maryland; Margaret Flood (Conwell) of Appomattox, VA, Mildred Brogden (wife of the late Herman Brogden), Eleanor Brogdon (Larry) both of VA; three brothers; Louis Gilbert (Margaret) of Phoenix, ViA, James Gilbert (Vanessa) of Manassas, Virginia and Charlie Gilbert (Florine) Concord, VA; two very devoted nieces Margaretta Johnson and Angela R. Hamlet and a devoted great niece, Taneil Toye, along with a host ofother relatives, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A viewing will be held on Friday, March 1, 2019, 1 to 7 p.m. at the Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, March 2, 3:30 p.m. with viewing in the church one hour prior to the service at St. Luke Baptist Church, Brookneal, VA.
