II Corinthians 5:8 - "We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent
from the body, and to be present with the Lord"
Norma J. Gilbert, a woman of many accomplishments, was born to Louis and Margaret Gilbert on November 3, 1962. Her educational journey began in Campbell County, VA, where she resided with he grandmother, Martha J. Gilbert, until age sixteen. Norma graduated from Frank W. Ballou High School in Washinton, DC in June of 1980. Post-graduation, she embarked on a career with the Washington Metropolitan Transit Authority (Metro), all while pursuing her Associate degree in Business Management. Her passion for healthcare led her to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a Nurse, a role she served in various capacities before obtaining certification to become a Massage Therapist.
Norma was enthusiastic and pursued her goals and dreams, including changing her name to Naomi J. Jehudiyah and visiting Africa before permanently moving there in 2021. Norma loved the African continent and stated many times that it gave her peace after the loss of three of her children, who preceded her in death. While there, she worked tirelessly to help build up her community and was being considered for the title of Queen Mother.
Naomi's life was guided by her strong faith and commitment to keeping the Sabbath and the Commandments. A devoted mother and loving sister, she was preceded in death by three children, Jeffrey Marte Gilbert, Mamisha Monique, and Jasmine Michelle Gilbert-Poindexer, and her brother, Louis Jerome Gilbert, whom she deeply loved.
Norma leaves to cherish her memories her parents, Louis and Margaret Gilbert; three sisters, Iris "Nise" Gilbert-Curtis, Barbara (Harold) Pennix and Joyce Nabinett; three sons, Jahvontae Jesse Marcel Gilbert and Jawuan Elijah Norman, Jeremiah Jude Cordell Gilbert-Eldridge; and her father Cornell Eldridge; granddaughter Sharae Imani Callander and a large extended family of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephew, cousins, and friends that loved her dearly. Naomi's wittiness will be forever missed.
