Nugene Elliott Harvey, Sr.

Nugene Elliott Harvey, Sr., 80, of Spout Spring, VA, born November 20, 1941 to the late Robert and Lucinda Harvey of Spout Spring, VA., passed away on Tuesday, April 5, 2022.  He is survived by his devoted wife, Margaret Cardwell Harvey of 59 years and two sons; Nugene Harvey, Jr. (Lorie) of Pembroke Pines, FL and Derwin Harvey of Roanoke, VA.

He was preceded in death by three sisters; Estelle Evans, Nancy Petty, Linda Goode and a brother, Robert Harvey, Jr.

He leaves to cherish his memory two sisters, Winnie Purvines and Nannie Bell Lewis of Philadelphia, PA: two granddaughters, Rachel Harvey and Savannah Ward; four sisters-in-law; Josephine German and Etta Battle of Carson, CA; Laura Harvey (Richard) of Concord, VA, Celestine Harvey of Bedford, VA and a brother-in-law, Robert Cardwell (Phyllis) of Lynchburg, VA.

He received his formal education in the Appomattox County School System.

At an early age, he professed his faith in Christ as his Savior and joined the Mt. Shiloh Baptist Church where he remained faithful until his demise.  He served diligently as a member of the Ushers Ministry, Men’s Ministry, Sunday school, Bible Study, and in other capacities until his health failed.  He was a brethren of the Long Mountain Lodge over 50 years.

He was employed at Lynchburg Foundry for 10 years and retired from Babcock & Wilcox with 32 years of service as a Security Officer.

His favorite Scripture was Psalm 19:14:  Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O LORD my strength, and my redeemer.

His favorite song was “May The Work I’ve Done Speak For Me”.

Nugene had a great passion for his family, the church, friends, neighbors, the community, and most importantly, his God.

A funeral will be held on Saturday, April 9, 2022, at 1 pm at Bruce and Stiff Funeral Home with viewing ONLY one hour prior to the service.

Masks are required to be worn.      There will be no repast.
