Otheaphus Valentine Johnson

On the early evening hours of Tuesday, October 10, 2017 God called to rest Otheaphus Valentine Johnson.  Otheaphus was born February 9, 1935 in Big Stick, West Virginia to the late Percy Levi Johnson and Mattie Edna Hunter Johnson.  He was the oldest of four children.  Otheaphus joined Mt. Airy Baptist Church at an early age.  He attended Sunday school and was a member of the first Male Quartet at Mt. Airy.

Otheaphus attended Carver Price High School and graduated from there on June 5, 1953.  He was a cook on the railroad and then was employed for many years at the Lynchburg Foundry and Piedmont Flour Mill.  Otheaphus had a love for working on cars.

When the foundry and flour mill closed its doors, Otheaphus attended the automotive program at Southside Virginia Community College.  He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Automotive Mechanics and opened his own garage, O.V. Johnson’s Garage.

Otheaphus was a loving kind spirited man who loved the lord and his family.  “Let the husband render unto his wife due benevolence; and likewise also the wife unto the husband.” – I Corinthians 7:3

He is preceded In death by his loving wife of 57 years, Rosa Catherine Johnson, two sisters, Barbara Lee Johnson and Viola “Billie” Johnson.

He leaves to cherish his memory daughters Brenda, Bonita and Karen (Tyrome) all of Appomattox, VA.; sons, Anthony (Jen) of Remington, VA; Chris (Angela) of Charlotte, NC. ; nine grandchildren, Tiffany (Jason), Antoine, Leon, Tamon (Crystal), Kiera, LaShayna, Jared, Lauren and Malia; five great-grandchildren, Danielle, Shanaya, Jai, Cymoria, Desmera; one sister, Betty Johnson and one aunt, Luvenia Waller of Philadelphia, PA; two sister-in-laws, Barbara Moore (Carl) of Appomattox, VA; Veronica Wright of Bel Air, MD.; one brother-in-law, James “Bobby” Humbles of Appomattox, VA and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
