Phillip Spinner, Sr. Obituary

On Monday July 4, 2022 at 10:00 a.m., the Lord called Phillip Eugene Spinner, Sr., to eternal rest at Virginia Commonwealth University Hospital (VCU) in Richmond, Va. He was born on November 23, 1954 to the late Deacon Floyd Spinner, Sr. and Deaconess Virginia Spinner.

Phillip, “Phil” as we called him, was a wonderful husband; father, brother, uncle, grandpa, “papa” and friend. To know him was, to know what hard work and dedication was. Phil never knew a stranger and was always willing to help his family or friends when needed. There was never a problem too big or small that “Dr. Phil” couldn’t fix. He was a one-of-a-kind individual. He was a lifetime member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church in Goode, Virginia. Phil worked for Lynchburg City for 16 years until his retirement in 1984.

Phil leaves his cherished memories to his loving wife of 34 years Vanessa Spinner; two daughters Debbinse (Mike) Spinner and Concetta Spinner of Lynchburg, VA; one son Phillip Spinner, Jr (Emmy) of Appomattox, VA; four stepchildren whom he loved as his own, Elamonda Lewis, William (Dede) Lewis, Warren Haskins III (Christy) of Lynchburg, VA and Vasserette Haskins of Concord, VA; one brother, Ronald Spinner of Bedford, VA, one sister,  Clara “Sis” Anderson of Bedford, VA; one Aunt, Janette Hayes of Bedford, VA;  a beloved uncle, Basil Taylor Bedford, VA; seven sisters in laws; Verta Rose, Eleanor Cobbs, Charlene Lewis, Rosetta (Sylvester) Douglas all of Lynchburg, VA; Wanda (Mark)Revely of Bradenton, FL; Lucille Cook of Durham, NC; Terry Lewis of Appomattox, VA; four brother-in- law’s, Vickie (Joanne) Lewis, Edwin (SiLisa) Lewis, Ralph Revely, Sr. of Appomattox, VA; Vernie (Juanita) Lewis of Rustburg, VA; three loving nephews, Tony (Shirley) and Barry Spinner of Atlanta, GA and Jason (Jessica) Spinner of Bedford, VA.

Phil had 19 Grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren whom all were the light of his eye and could never do anything wrong. His four best friends were Dwight Walker, Ronnie McCoy, Donald Thomas, and Tony Taylor; a cherished childhood friend, Claire “Pinto” Rucker; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.

The family would like to give thanks to all the doctors, nurses, and staff at VCU hospital for the wonderful care given to Phil over the past four years. Also, they would like to extend a special thank you to Phil’s neighbors Dwight and Shirley Walker for always coming to his aid whenever it was needed.  To all other family and friends not mentioned, we appreciate all the time spent and memories made with Phil.
