Richard Eugene Hamlett gained his heavenly wings September 28, 2024 at his residence in Appomattox County, Virginia surrounded by loving family members. Born on March 31, 1960, he was the fifth child of the late Willis and Virginia Ferguson Hamlett. At an early age he accepted Christ joining the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Red House, VA. He was a graduate of Appomattox County High School, Class of 1978. Richard was a beloved member of the community known for his kind heart and friendly nature. He had a passion for driving, NASCAR, outdoor work, a great lover of basketball, and was a fervid fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He was a dedicated member of his community, serving as a school bus driver for Appomattox County Public Schools many years. Earlier in life he was employed by Thomasville Furniture Company and a truck driver for Counts & Dobyns Construction Company.
He married the late Mattie Kidd on May 28, 1994 and to this union he became the beloved step-father of Timothy Kidd and Marvis Ferguson, then the adoption of Tamara Hamlett whom he loved dearly. His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace.

Richard had a special relationship with his granddaughter, Zariah (ZeZe). She would be referred to as "his partner in crime" because of their profound connection. This is a bond that she will miss, but it will never be forgotten.
A funeral service for Mr. Hamlett will be held on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1303 Mt. Zion Road, Redhouse, VA, 23963
Public viewing will be held one hour before the service from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
