Richard Hamlett Obituary

Richard Eugene Hamlett gained his heavenly wings September 28, 2024 at his residence in Appomattox County, Virginia surrounded by loving family members.  Born on March 31, 1960, he was the fifth child of the late Willis and Virginia Ferguson Hamlett.  At an early age he accepted Christ joining the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Red House, VA.   He was a graduate of Appomattox County High School, Class of 1978.  Richard was a beloved member of the community known for his kind heart and friendly nature.  He had a passion for driving, NASCAR, outdoor work, a great lover of basketball, and was a fervid fan of the Dallas Cowboys.  He was a dedicated member of his community, serving as a school bus driver for Appomattox County Public Schools many years.  Earlier in life he was employed by Thomasville Furniture Company and a truck driver for Counts & Dobyns Construction Company.

He married the late Mattie Kidd on May 28, 1994 and to this union he became the beloved step-father of Timothy Kidd and Marvis Ferguson, then the adoption of Tamara Hamlett whom he loved dearly.  His presence will be deeply missed by all who knew him.  May he rest in peace.

Thoughtful memories will be cherished by:  Daughter, Tamara Hamlett, Appomattox, step-son, Timothy Kidd (LaShannon), Appomattox, sisters:  Margie Holcomb (Carl), Mechanicsville, VA; Juanita Beasley, Los Angeles, CA; Gloria Smith (Roderick) Newport News, VA; brothers: Willis Hamlett, Jr. (Mary), Appomattox, VA; Robert Hamlett, Madison Heights, VA; grandchildren: Zariah, Tre'Suan, Ta'Vian, La'Myah; four aunts: Loveline Faggins, Hampden Sydney, VA; Elsie Cham, East Orange, NJ; Estelle Haskins, (Pamplin, VA); Roberta Ferguson, Cumberland, VA; and a host of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.  Richard had a special relationship with his granddaughter, Zariah (ZeZe).  She would be referred to as "his partner in crime" because of their profound connection.  This is a bond that she will miss, but it will  never be forgotten.
