Obituary

On the evening of September 6, 2021, an angel of peace and mercy silently swept into the
corridors of Lynchburg General Hospital and reclaimed the loving, humble, and virtuous soul of Serena Humbles Mosley.

Serena was born on April 11, 1941, in Appomattox County, a daughter of the late Peyton and Pankey (“Pinkey”) Humbles. She was educated by and graduated from the Campbell County School System.

Serena gave her heart to the Lord at an early age and joined the Mount Airy Baptist Church of Gladstone, VA. There she was a very dedicated member and served as a Deaconess, on the Ladies Auxiliary Ministry, the 1st Pastor’s Aide Ministry, and as a Treasurer for the Senior Choir. Serena was also a dedicated member of the Deaconess Board, The Faithful Few Ladies Club, and the Usher Board at Jordan Baptist of Appomattox, VA. Serena worked for many years as a seamstress at the Garment Factory before working as a
cafeteria lady for the Appomattox County Public Schools, and becoming a personal care aide for the elderly in the community. Serena also was a Girl Scout troop leader and loved her girls very dearly.

Serena was preceded in death by her loving husband of 62 years, Deacon Walter Lee Mosley, Sr. She leaves to cherish her love and memories, four children Celia Ann Jones (Bennett), Godfrey “Dennis” Mosley, Marlisa Mosley Jones (Gordon) all of Appomattox, VA, Walter Lee Mosley, Jr. of Newport News, VA; and grandchildren Edward & Serena Parrish of Appomattox, VA which they obtained legal custody of and raised as their own children; grandchildren, Christopher Mosley (Tanisha), Shronda Mosley (Pharod), Tonyka Wright (Ernestine), Markasha Jones all of Appomattox, VA; and Cortez Mosley of Lynchburg, VA. Great-grandchildren; Treyvon, Tristan, Karter, Mason, Xzavier, Cameron, Autumn, Jaxon, Richard & Dashawn; who everyone knows were the apples of her eye. Four brothers, Reverend Ernest Humbles (Fannie) of Concord, VA., John Humbles (Gloria), Steve Humbles (Leslie) of Appomattox, VA., Robert Humbles (Marilyn) of Columbia, SC. Her brother David Humbles and great-grandson Isaiah Croner preceded her in death. Six very special “sister cousins” Darnell, Maggie, Martha, Ruth, Joanne and Louise; and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, other family, and friends.
