Shirley Scruggs Obituary

If I should go tomorrow, it would never be goodbye, for I have left my heart with you, so don’t you ever cry. The love that’s deep within me, shall reach you from the stars, you’ll feel it from the heavens, and it will heal the scars.    Author Unknown

Shirley Mae Scruggs, 74 of Greensboro, NC went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 17, 2022, after a brief battle with cancer. To know her was to love her, she was a hard-working woman who loved her family and friends and greeted everyone with a hand wave and hello.

She was born December 19, 1947 to the late Robert Anderson and Geneva Wright.  Shirley was a member of Springfield Baptist Church and served on the Kitchen Committee. She was a long-time employee with the Appomattox Moose Lodge, as well as Pizza Hut and Family Dollar.  She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter, Pattie (Gregory) Franklin and her son, Marvin Cox (Margaretta), her grandchildren Jonathan (Lisa) Franklin, Marvin Cox, Jr., Deonte MacFadden, Javon Adams and she was preceded in death by her beautiful granddaughter, Jazmin Symone Franklin and her sister Okey Wright; three brothers, Herman, Ben and James Wright.  She was blessed with numerous great-grandchildren.

She also leaves her loving siblings Elizabeth Pankey, Mary Lou Pankey, Annie Davis, Eva Wright and Bertha Wright along with a host of devoted nieces and nephews, cousin and friends. We also give regards to a special family friend, Nichole Foster.

To Those Whom I Love & Those Who Love Me

When I am gone, release me, let me go.
I have so many things to see and do,
You mustn't tie yourself to me with too many tears,
But be thankful we had so many good years.

I gave you my love, and you can only guess
How much you've given me in happiness.
I thank you for the love that you have shown,
But now it is time I traveled on alone.

So grieve for me a while, if grieve you must,
Then let your grief be comforted by trust.
It is only for a while that we must part,
So treasure the memories within your heart.

I won't be far away for life goes on.
And if you need me, call and I will come.

Though you can't see or touch me, I will be near.
And if you listen with your heart, you'll hear,
All my love around you soft and clear.

And then, when you come this way alone,
I'll greet you with a smile and a 'Welcome Home'
