Wilbur L. Robertson was born on May 12, 1924 in Buckingham County, VA. He was the eighth of ten children born to the late William Henry Robertson and Cora Johnson Robertson.
Wilbur departed this life on June 11, 2018 at home after a lengthy illness. He was preceded in death by his parents and eight siblings, James Henry, Florence Estelle (Diggs), Branch Emanuel, Roberta Cornelia (McCuff), Marie, Samuel Cabell, Charles Burbanks, and Earnest Harold.
He accepted Jesus Christ as his personal savior, was baptized and joined Springfield Baptist Church at an early age where he remained a member until his passing. Wilbur attended school in Buckingham County and completed the 8th grade. He worked alongside his brothers on the farm. As a young man, he cut pulpwood to earn a living.
Wilbur met and married Mildred Pankey and from this union two children were born, Gloria and Wilbur, Jr. (Brother). The family moved to Baltimore, Maryland where he gained employment with Bethlehem Steel Company as a Steel Rigger. He worked in the steel mill for 30 years before retiring in 1986 and returning to live in Gladstone, Virginia. He loved working in the mill and passing the time with fellow workers on the job. Wilbur was known to be quite a talker who never missed a chance to share a story with friends and family. He was especially close to his brothers and sisters, and two close friends, Bill Megginson and the late John Saunders. Many of his buddies called him by nickname, "Cowboy". His favorite pastimes were watching sports on television, particularly football; golf player, Tiger Woods; the Kentucky Derby and Preakness horse races; and traveling to New York and West Virginia to visit family.
He leaves to cherish his memory a son, Wilbur Robertson, Jr. (Daisy) of Wilmington, NC; daughter Gloria Robertson of Appomattox, VA; granddaughter Stephanie Robertson Jackson (ShaMichael) of Buford, GA; great-granddaughter Sanai, great-grandson Xavier; devoted sister Elizabeth Harris of Farmville, VA; sisters-in-law, Marion Dillard of Beards Fork, WV, and Estelle Robertson of Baltimore, MD; a longtime devoted friend, Mildred Edwards of Baltimore, MD and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
